This allows me to use Hugo's image resizing to create img srcsets where the client downloads an appropriate image depending on their screen size. I had to go back and find original photos for each of these posts because Hugo was resizing my already-optimized versions and they looked horrible. Unfortunately I couldn't find originals for these posts: - aqaba-dirty-disappointing - contemporary-arab-design-jrf-showroom - eid-mubarak-neighborhood-dumpster - no-noise-near-noisy-mosque - red-orange-yellow-rice-bab-al-yemen Hugo will fall back to looking in the static directory for these.

كان الأنباطُ قبيلةً أصبحت غَنيّة غِنىً فاحِشاً من تِجَارَةِ اللِّبان والمُرّ والبهارات في شِبْهِ الجَزِيرَة العربيّة مُنذ حوالي أَلْفَي سنة. بَنُوا البَتْرَاء عَاصِمَةً لِحَضارَتِهم المُزْدَهِرَة. الوَاجِهَاتُ الحَجَرِيَّةُ الجَمِيلَة السَّاحِرَة — التي يَبْلُغُ طُولها مِئَة مِتْر — ما زالت سَلِيمةً بِشَكْلٍ مُدْهِشٍ، ومَحْمِيَّةً بشَكْلٍ جَيِّد إلى يَوْمِنَا هذا.
قَالَ عَالِمُ الأَحْيَاءِ ﴿جي. بي. أس هالدين﴾ ذاتَ مرَّة "إنّ الكَوْنَ ليس أَكْثَر غَرَابَةً مِمَّا نَعْتَقِدُ فَحَسْب، بَلْ هُو أَكْثَر غَرَابَةً مِمَّا يُمكِننا أن نَعْتَقِد، مُشِيراً إلى حَقِيقَةِ أنَّ العُلُوم الفِيزْيَائِيَّة غَالِباً ما تُثير الأَسْئِلَة أَكْثَر مِمَّا تُجِيبُ عنها وتتركنا نحكُّ أَدْمِغَتَنا.
بعد زِيارَةِ البَتْرَاء شَعَرْتُ بالذُّهُولِ ذاتِه، ذلك بأنَّ البَتْرَاء ليست فَقَط أَعْظَم مِمَّا نَتَخَيَّل، بَلْ أَعْظَم مِمَّا يُمْكِننا أَنْ نَتَخَيَّل، وإِنِّي لأَدْفَعُ عُمْرِي حَتَّى أَرَاها فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَن!
